Dan Hurley Slams Podcasts for Maui: ‘Some of Them Say Stupid S**t’

Back in JulyDan Hurley told the world he would “look for slights or create ones that don’t exist just to keep that chip on UConn’s shoulder.”

“I think that’s what has always fueled the program,” he added. “I know that’s always been the case with coach (Jim) Calhoun, so it’s worked out pretty well for him.”

Well, here we are in December and Hurley is having no trouble finding slights against his team.

After his team earned its sixth straight victory Saturday after losing three straight at the Maui Invitational, Hurley criticized the podcasts for sowing doubt about his team after the Maui debacle.

“I don’t know how many people at that time in Maui were on their stupid podcast saying we’d be 10-3,” Hurley said after his team’s 78-74 win over Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. “Not all podcasts are stupid, but some of them are. Some of them say stupid shit.

Ironically, the Champ des 68 — which called out Hurley on podcast for ’embarrassing’ secondary behavior in Maui when he had a technical foul that contributed to the loss to Memphis in Game 1 – posted Hurley’s video from Saturday.

Hurley also found other slights this week.

After his team won its Big East home opener against Xavier on Wednesday, Hurley said people should unfollow social media accounts that questioned his opening day record. Hurley improved to 2-5 in the first few league games following Xavier’s win.

“I just want to thank everyone who tweeted this morning about our record in the first (conference) games. You almost talked this shit out. So everyone should stop following the people who did this today,” said UConn reporter Sam Calhoun. reported.

After the match, one of those accounts posted an apology with the “Anchorman” meme.

Hurley will no doubt find more slights in the future, but for now his team has won six straight and completed a major turnaround since Maui.
