TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) – Four Kansas communities have secured nearly $2 million in infrastructure funding to improve local airports.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced the news in a statement Friday, sharing more than $1.7 million in bipartisan federal infrastructure law funding from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant program . The projects also receive nearly $200,000 in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Fund and the Build Kansas Fund.

The airports receiving funding are Independence Municipal Airport, Hutchinson Regional Airport, Coffey County Airport and Elkhart-Morton County Airport.

“Kansas airports play a critical role in connecting businesses to more opportunities and strengthening local economies,” Kelly said. “These four projects will improve airport infrastructure while strengthening the state’s transportation network.”

Along with funding the four airports, the Build Kansas Fund provides required matching funds for 23 other federal grants across the state.
