Man, 24, shot and killed in Akron homicide

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday morning in Akron in what police are now calling a homicide, according to Akron police.

Police say officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of Garden Court for a shooting just before 4 a.m.

When police arrived, they found a 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services were called and the man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said officers arrested several people who were at the scene, including a suspected shooter.

Preliminary reports say the 24-year-old man and another man knocked on the door and rushed inside once the door opened, according to witnesses.

Once the men were inside, the victim allegedly attacked a 23-year-old man. During the altercation, a 19-year-old man inside the apartment grabbed his gun and shot the victim, police said.

Authorities say the victim left the residence after being shot and then collapsed outside.

Authorities say detectives questioned the shooter and others and then released them while continuing to examine the circumstances, including an allegation of self-defense surrounding the shooting.
