The UAE government has launched the “Data Index”, a benchmark developed to improve government performance and track progress in national data management and governance. The index adheres to global best practices and standards in statistics and data management.

The index covers three key areas: governance of data regulatory and operational frameworks, application of statistical best practices to improve data quality, and digital transformation projects to manage data production processes within federal entities , said Mohammed Hassan, executive director of the Department of Statistics and Data. Science sector at FCSC. This ensures reliability, quality and completeness to support informed decision-making at all levels.

Developed as part of a comprehensive plan by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center (FCSC) in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, the data index serves as a key reference. It enables federal government entities to manage and deliver high-quality, globally referenced data and statistics within the Government Data and Digital “Performance Management System”.

The index was unveiled at an event hosted by FCSC, attended by 120 data scientists representing 35 federal government entities.

The launch of the index coincides with the UAE’s ‘Unified UAE Numbers’ project, a landmark national initiative aimed at strengthening transparency, improving data accuracy and driving progress in various economic, demographic, social areas , environmental and others. These efforts also reflect the UAE’s ambition to be a global leader in leveraging data for strategic decision-making and sustainable development.
