They were discontinued in the late 1970s and returned in 2019 as Linton Heritage Series with some major upgrades – and now they’ve been upgraded again with superpowers.

Super is Wharfedale’s term for upgraded versions of its key products, and that means a familiar look with even better components. The first Super model in 2024 was the Super Denton, and now there is the Super Linton. The 2024 Wharfedale Super Linton speakers look familiar, but come with upgraded speaker units, crossovers and cabinets; Lintons are still on sale and still great, but they’re designed for buyers who want even higher performance.

Wharfedale Super Linton speakers: what’s new

The new Super Linton comes with a slightly taller baffle with improved construction to improve its acoustic behavior. All three speakers have been improved, with a new tweeter unit and an improved motor system for the woofer, and there is a new crossover which is now split into two boards and uses “superior” circuit components “. The speaker grille has also been redesigned, and Wharfedale says it also offers sonic improvements.

The new motor system means the bass here should be very impressive: low frequencies now go down to 32Hz and Wharfedale promises improved transient performance and an “exciting” bass.

The tweeter unit is based on that of the same company’s £5,000 Dovedale speakers, with a 25mm dome made from a fine fabric weave covered in a special damping material; Wharfedale claims the design takes the resonant frequency of the treble unit below the crossover region, providing excellent highs and harmonics while integrating closely with the rest of the speaker’s output. There is an improved horn design for improved upper midrange response, and the midrange driver has been given its own cylindrical chamber for a more natural and realistic performance.

The new Wharfedale Super Linton speakers cost £1,999 with stands (per pair) or £1,849 without, and they will be available in mid-November 2024.
