Steven Primeau said his family I wanted to start organizing this charity dinner as a way of giving back to the community.

“It’s a way of… setting a good example for my boys. They’re eight and six right now and I just want to show them how to be a good community member and give back to others,” he said.

Last year the Legion itself benefited from money raised by the charity, alongside The Center 105 soup kitchenwho also received leftover food from last year’s meal.

The Primeaus managed to raise $2,000 last year thanks to donations from family, friends and other members of the community.

With that money, they were able to serve 190 meals, and Steven Primeau said they were on track to hit that number again Sunday night.

Legion guests were treated to a full Christmas meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and mixed greens, with apple or pumpkin pie and tea or coffee for dessert.

This year, Center 105 will again be a beneficiary and will receive leftover food, and Carefor Hospice Cornwall will receive a monetary donation.

Primeau’s father died in hospice earlier this summer.

“It’s a great place. They are extraordinary at what they do,” he said.

He said his family enjoys doing this every year and appreciates the opportunity to help people.

Primeau said he and his family also plan to start another fundraiser in the fall for children returning to school.

He hopes to raise money to buy backpacks and haircuts for children who need them but can’t afford them and is looking for partners in the area who would be willing to support this initiative.
