Rs 100 crore sanctioned for Patna University and LNMU under PM-USHA for research

Patna University (PU) and Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) have been sanctioned to the tune of Rs 100 crore each under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA). The funds aim to transform these institutions into multidisciplinary teaching and research universities (MERUs).

The Union Education Ministry has approved this important funding to improve infrastructure, improve research and improve the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) scores of these universities.

The Bihar government had already submitted proposals for this funding after PU’s request.

BENEFITS FOR PATNA UNIVERSITY AND LNMU

PU has been waiting for this approval for a long time. The funds will enable the university to develop much-needed facilities, thereby strengthening its position among higher education institutions across India.

This approval also marks a big victory for UP, which received one of the largest allocations compared to other states.

For LNMU, the funding represents an opportunity to significantly enhance its multidisciplinary approach to education and research.

The funds will help develop better infrastructure and increase research outputs, thereby putting the university on the map as a leading institution.

THE GOVERNMENT’S FOCUS ON EDUCATION

Bihar Finance Minister Samrat Chowdhary, highlighting the development, called it a “big gift from the central government”. This approval aligns with PM-USHA’s broader objectives to improve the quality of higher education in India, focusing on the creation of MERUs across the country.

Both universities are expected to use this funding to achieve ambitious research, ranking and infrastructure goals. This development underlines the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education in Bihar and making these universities competitive at the national level.
