Man Utd: Real reason for Rashford omission revealed as Amorim ‘no pressure’ to fire him

Ruben Amorim faced no pressure from the Man Utd hierarchy to leave Marcus Rashford out of his squad, according to reports.

The Red Devils coach has decided to leave Rashford out of his team. 2-1 victory against arch-rival Man City in the Manchester derby nine days ago, while Alejandro Garnacho also missed this match.

But Rashford has now also been ruled out of the next two games, with Amorim pointing to ‘selection’ as the reason for his departure. Man Utd striker for his team for their matches against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup and Bournemouth in the Premier League.

After being ruled out of their clash with Man City, Rashford told journalist Henry Winter that he was ready for ‘new challenge’ away from Old Trafford.

Man Utd head coach Amorim insists he will ‘forget the interview now’ and move on by judging Rashford solely on his performances on the pitch.

Amorim said Aerial sports: “It’s a difficult situation. I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, making choices that are not the player’s first idea.

“I’m always there to help Marcus as an extra player. I have to do what I have to do. They chose to do the interview because it’s not just about Marcus. I understand that.

“As a coach, I focus on performance and how you train. The rest is better for me and for the club to take care of when the time comes.

“Right now I’m focused on getting Marcus better and we need a talented guy like Marcus. I forget about the interview now and see what I see on the pitch.

And the Star of the day insist that Amorim is “under no pressure from club bosses to leave” Rashford out of the starting XI and “United chiefs, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and chief executive Omar Barrada, have refused to get involved in team selection.

The report adds:

“It is understood that Amorim had to deal with Rashford and refused to involve him due to poor performances in training. And Amorim told Rashford he would not call him back into the squad until his attitude would not improve.

“The scenario now risks turning toxic, as United face the dilemma of what to do with one of their most high-profile and highest-paid stars. Amorim will not want to keep someone who does not contribute to the ‘team.

Aerial sports Journalist Melissa Reddy was not impressed with the way Rashford performed at Man Utd.

Reddy said: “I don’t think he’s behaving well, not just because of the timing of this interview.

“I think the way fans want to see how committed you are to your club and to your responsibilities is what you do on the pitch, it’s the way you handle training sessions, the way you interact with your teammates and how you fundamentally perceive yourself as a representative of a football club.

“In Marcus Rashford’s case it’s his boyhood club, Manchester United, so it should mean more.

“Yet where people hear about Rashford’s commitment, or his love for the club, and where it’s exemplified is on Twitter – his statements, or that interview with Henry Winter where he talks about how much he loves the club.

“There was this article in the Players’ Tribune about ‘never question my commitment to United’. And it’s in the middle of him continually breaking club rules.

“So how can we not be allowed to question your commitment, when we see that you are calling in sick to training when in reality you have been having nights out in Belfast? You are now between two managers and you are still not behaving in the right way.

“And the timing of this interview is disappointing because the manager made a statement, he let down Rashford and (Alejandro) Garnacho.

“The next day they’re training really well, so Amorim immediately goes, ‘OK, that situation was handled well.’ Rashford is then sick on Monday so he doesn’t train, and then he does this interview on Tuesday where he says he is ready to take on a new challenge.

“Now you would think that if this club means that much to you, if that’s all you want and that’s all you care about, you actually want to prove to your manager that that’s it.

“You just arrived, this is my life, this is my soul, this is my heart. And yet, in reality, what he did was say ‘no, I’m done, I want to go somewhere else’.”
