JazzYYC brings Canadian musicians to Calgary

“I just want people to like what I like” – that’s how JazzYYC artistic director Kodi Hutchinson describes the lineup he’s put together for Canada’s JazzYYC festival.

Artists include singer Jill Barber, percussionist Luis Tovar and hip-hop artist Cadence Weapon.

The festival runs from November 6 to 10 and ends with a free jazzwalk in Inglewood.

This is when several artists will perform at local cafes, restaurants and a craft brewery.

“The idea is simply to make things easy, accessible, fun. They’re daytime events and people can just experience the music,” Hutchinson said.

“And I hope they come out saying, ‘You know what, maybe that wasn’t my thing, but that thing over there, I loved, and I’d love to know more about it.’ “
