Charity is part of the British cultural landscape

‘Tis the season of goodwill and giving, when the UK’s charitable sector comes to the forefront. As a philanthropist active in the UK for over 40 years, I know how much of a difference philanthropy can make, particularly in the arts and culture sector. It is much more than just giving money or one’s treasures. It’s also about the other “T’s” of time and talent. Inspired by the The twelve days of ChristmasI have identified 12 bold steps we can take to strengthen and grow philanthropy in the UK.

Together, these measures form a roadmap to transform philanthropy in the UK. Philanthropy has the power to spark change, unite communities, and address social challenges in ways that the public and private sectors cannot alone. By taking bold initiatives and fostering a culture of generosity in the year ahead, the UK can unlock the full potential of philanthropy to enrich lives and build a better future for all.
