Fenton Winery & Brewery aims to begin building boutique hotel in 2025

FENTON TWP, MI – The owners of Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery are looking to expand their business with a new boutique hotel in Fenton Township.

The proposed hotel, which would include guest rooms, event space, a café-bistro and a bakery, would be built on a vacant 3.3-acre commercial site located across the street from the winery, brewery and distillery, just North Long Lake intersection. Fenton Road and Road.

“We have a winery, a brewery, a distillery and a banquet hall where we do 100 weddings a year,” said Matt Sherrow, who owns and operates the business with his wife, Ginny Sherrow.

The Sherrows want to open a hotel to provide a convenient lodging option for guests attending the weddings they host.

“About 2 acres are wetlands,” Matt Sherrow said of the neighboring land. “It’s been empty for as long as we’ve been here and as long as anyone else can remember.”

They purchased the land for the hotel about a year and a half ago and worked with Sedgewick and Ferweda Architects and Kincaid Building Group to develop plans for the property.

With about half of the hotel’s design phase complete, Matt and Ginny Sherrow are preparing to submit a site plan to the municipality for its planning commission to review.

The proposed hotel would have a total of 25 rooms, including 17 in its main building and two chalets of four bedrooms each, sleeping up to four people per room.

Although the hotel would serve as a place for wedding guests to stay, it would also be open to the public.

Matt and Ginny Sherrow said they hope to begin construction on the hotel by summer 2025, noting that work will take about a year and a half.

“We are really excited to be able to grow our business, expand our business family and be able to serve Fenton Township in a greater capacity,” said Ginny Sherrow. “We pride ourselves on offering exceptional experiences on our property, and we believe this will allow us to do so in a greater capacity for our guests and people who visit Fenton Township from around the country.”

The Fenton Township Planning Commission reviewed a concept plan for the hotel at its Dec. 12 meeting.
