Maui County awards contract to strengthen disaster preparedness with new technology

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – After the devastating 2023 wildfire, Maui County is updating its technology to improve disaster preparedness.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency announced Friday that it has awarded a four-year contract to Genasys Inc., a California-based company that provides protective communications systems and solutions.

It will equip MEMA with two software platforms: one uses smart zones to quickly identify precise evacuation areas so the public can receive clear notifications and warnings.

The other provides real-time traffic data and analytics, which will help ensure evacuation routes are clear and safe.

Officials said the technology is expected to launch in January and will be used throughout Maui County.
