A 20-year-old woman was fatally stabbed overnight during a fight in the Austin neighborhood during which two people were injured multiple times by a sharp object, Chicago police said.

Around 12:15 a.m. Friday, a 20-year-old woman approached another woman, also 20, while she was outside in the 5300 block of West Chicago Avenue. A fight ensued and both women suffered multiple injuries from a sharp object, police said.

The woman who approached the other woman was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The second woman was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with lacerations to her arm and was listed in good condition, police said.

The second woman was taken into custody.
