Sault News: Warning after tampering with candy distributed by car

Police in Sault Ste. Marie says a suspect in a vehicle handed out Halloween candy that appears to have been tampered with.

The police were alerted on November 1.

“The candy in question was a box of Smartie brand chocolates which appeared to have a hole and the box was wet,” police said in a statement Saturday.

“It is believed the sweets were collected around John Street and Albert Street from someone who was handing out sweets from their vehicle.”

Fortunately, the candy was not eaten. No description of the person or vehicle was provided and no charges have been filed.

However, police said the incident “is a reminder to parents and guardians to check all items collected by children on Halloween to ensure they are safe to consume.”
