Klay Thompson Shines in Mavericks Debut, Breaks 3-Point Record in Spurs Win Over

Klay Thompson showed off his shooting ability in his highly anticipated debut for the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson broke the franchise record for most three-pointers made in the Mavericks’ first game, shooting 6/10 from beyond the arc. Thompson’s 22-point performance helped Dallas earn a 120–109 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the season opener, marking a strong start for the newly formed trio of Thompson, Luka Dončić, and Kyrie Irving.

Coming off the Western Conference Finals series, Dallas hopes Thompson’s sharp shooting will be the missing piece for the NBA championship. While Thompson recorded seven rebounds and three steals, Dončić (28 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists) and Irving (15 points, 2 assists, 2 steals) scored a total of 65 points. “Wow. Just incredible… I’m not happy, but I’m happy with what we did tonight,” Thompson remarked postgame.

Thompson wasted no time scoring his first basket and making an early three-pointer, sparking a 21-7 run in the fourth quarter that secured the win. Meanwhile, Chris Paul, making his debut with a new team, led the Spurs with eight assists and three points.

Rookie Victor Wembanyama contributed 17 points, 9 rebounds and a block for San Antonio, while Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie became Spurs’ top scorers with 18 points each. Highlights of the match included Dončić’s dazzling, no-look assist, followed by Thompson’s confident three-pointer; This reflected the potential chemistry of a Dallas roster that has its sights set on an NBA title.
