Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James endorsed Kamala Harris for president on Thursday on his X account. James posted a video that included clips of Donald Trump speaking and ended with the quote “Hate brings us back.”

The video was posted with the caption: “What are we talking about here?? When I think about my children and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!! “

James had originally planned to support Harris for president on Wednesday when the Lakers played the Cleveland Cavaliers, but decided not to get anything out of his return to Ohio. He instead shared his support for Harris on Thursday and expanded on his reasoning after the Lakers’ win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday.

“Well, I was going to go the day of the game in Cleveland, but I didn’t want to overshadow all the hype around me going home with Bronny,” James told reporters. “That’s when I planned to do it…I wanted to make sure it was seen and heard and heard loudly. I have a daughter, a wife, a mother, things of this nature that she believes in when it comes to women’s rights and when it comes to the future of my children and the direction our country should take, I feel like this endorsement is right there. Just does. And come on, I mean, you know me, I’m sure it wasn’t any other way.

James has become more politically outspoken since journalist Laura Ingraham told him to “shut up and dribble” in 2018. Ingraham’s comments came amid an ongoing debate over whether or not athletes should stick to sports, a debate that grew after the former quarterback- NFL fullback Colin Kaepernick took a knee to protest police brutality.

Even before Ingraham’s comments, James had already spoken out in support of Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers are among other NBA athletes and coaches who have expressed support for Harris.
