Reeves says she was wrong about UK’s tax needs before election

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said she was wrong to tell British voters before the election that Labor would not announce further tax rises, even though she assured them there would be no repeat of her first budget in the years to come.

Reeves was asked in an interview Sunday to explain comments in June when she said she had “no intention of raising taxes beyond what we’ve already set.” Such remarks have come under greater scrutiny since Reeves unveiled the £40 billion ($52 billion) plan to raise revenue, including some measures such as changes to payroll taxes and inheritance taxes which were not specifically mentioned in the Labor Party campaign manifesto.
