Hailed as one of DC’s best projects, CW’s The lightning was also disappointing to say the least. What appeared on screens with the aim of captivating audiences with its thrilling superhero antics quickly became a show defined by predictability and repetitive twists and turns.

Despite Grant Gustin’s brilliance as the Scarlet Speedster, even his performance couldn’t completely mask the glaring flaws in the show’s writing, leaving the once beloved series infuriating to watch.

How The lightning Went from a complex series to a predictable series

Throughout his journey in the Arrowverse, C.W. The lightning received impeccable ratings, reviews, and numerous accolades, making it a definite hit. A series that stood out for its complexity and intricate storytelling, but it quickly became disappointing as it progressed.

While it handled themes of loss, sacrifice, and heroism remarkably well, it unfortunately ended up becoming more and more predictable with each new season. The villains, who were once full of depth and intrigue, have become predictable with repetitive motivations and objectives.

While Grant Gustin was always brilliant as the Flash, it was his character development that ended up annoying fans the most. As the series progressed, in almost every episode we saw Barry Allen initially defeated by a villain and facing almost insurmountable challenges, then a sudden pep talk or Deus ex-machina moment would end to sort everything out.

This change, from a complex, multi-layered narrative to a more rinse-and-repeat narrative, ended up ruining the entire appeal of the series. Additionally, Barry Allen’s powers, often plot-friendly, made the series even less watchable than it already was with his lousy writing.

Grant Gustin was brilliant but his powers not so much

Grant Gustin’s portrayal of Barry Allen was undeniably central to The lightning. His natural charm, emotional depth and ability to play a complex character like Allen brought a unique energy to the series. So while Gustin made the superhero more relatable and relatable to fans, the inconsistencies with his powers as the Scarlet Speedster didn’t help his overall appeal.

The main problem that fans have, it’s the inconsistency in BarryThe speed of throughout the series. Although he has performed extraordinary feats, such as traveling the world in seconds, in other scenes he would have difficulty fighting an enemy moving at normal human speed. These discrepancies removed suspense and logic from the plot, implying that his powers were relative to the plot.

Additionally, on several occasions, while facing supposedly mortal foes, Gustin’s Flash preferred to initiate conversations rather than use his powers which could have granted him fairly easy victories. This erratic nature of the plot made it increasingly difficult for many to stay interested, alienating diehard fans despite Grant Gustin’s stellar performance.
