All Blacks: Beauden Barrett’s cover named McKenzie’s favorite for jersey 10: Planet Rugby

Scott Robertson has decided to bring another flyhalf into the All Blacks squad after calling up Harry Plummer.

The 26-year-old joins the squad as a replacement for Beauden Barrett, who was ruled out of the Ireland clash with a head injury suffered against England.

Barrett was sent off in the final quarter of the match at Twickenham and failed his HIA.

As a result, the fly-half will undergo return-to-play protocols and miss his meeting with Andy Farrell’s men at the Aviva Stadium on Friday.

Damien McKenzie will be the hot favorite to take over the number 10 jersey after recently falling behind Barrett in the pecking order.

Battle of the fly half 2024

The Chiefs star started the season as the first pick All black people pivot and started the first eight games before breaking through in the final Rugby Championship encounter.

“He’s pretty laid back, DMac, he’ll take on whatever role is required.” He’s had the keys for a while and he’s got them in his hands again now,” head coach Robertson told reporters.

Meanwhile, Plummer had a brief taste of Test rugby after playing three minutes against Australia in September, but he recently joined the All Blacks second XV squad.

He featured in the 38-24 win over Munster at Thomond Park and could well come into contention for a place in the 23 to face Ireland next weekend.

The playmaker will compete with McKenzie, Stephen Perofeta and Ruben Love for places in the 23, although the former will likely wear the number 10 jersey.

Elsewhere, the All Blacks will also be without hooker Codie Taylor for the Dublin game, with Brodie McAlister joining the team for the first time.

“Codie is a world-class whore, top two or three in the world and in great shape,” Robertson said.

“Beauden led the match pretty well, we thought, until the bang.

“We will obviously miss them, but they will be there to give their wisdom and prepare the rest of the players.”

Whore Options

Asafo Aumua came on as an early substitute against England following Taylor’s departure and is expected to start in Dublin next Friday.

This therefore opened the door for the arrival on the bench of the inexperienced George Bell.

Robertson added: “Asafo, that was a big moment for him. He had worked very hard to make sure that when he had an opportunity like this, he would take it.

Elsewhere, flanker Christian Lio-Willie will remain in the All Blacks camp, while center Billy Proctor is back in New Zealand as he and his partner await the birth of their first child.
