Cumberland approves 60 affordable housing units

Castles and Coasts Housing Association won approval from Cumbria’s local authority planning committee last week, receiving the green light for its mix of bungalows and houses on six acres off Greenhill, near Brampton.

As well as 60 affordable homes, the housing association’s plans also included free market building land.

Of the affordable houses, six are two-bed bungalows. There would also be 30 two-bed houses, 20 three-bed houses and four with four bedrooms. All will be semi-detached houses, with eight different house types on offer.

Most of the properties will be listed as Right to Buy homes, with 28 offered at affordable rent. They would all have solar panels, private gardens and off-street parking for at least two cars.

Under the proposals drawn up by Ergo, there would be a new access point to the development from Greenhill, as well as a secondary road.

Summit Town Planning assisted Castles and Coasts on the application. The project team also includes Beckwith and Hamlin Consulting Engineers, Envirotech, Saj Transport Consultants, Rowan Tree Surveys, GeoEnvironmental Engineering, CNB Housing Insights and Lanpro.
