Bill Maher and Ben Shapiro vie to elect Trump in 2024

Bill Maher fought with The Daily Wire Ben Shapiro for his support of the former president Donald Trump in an episode of the first Random club podcast released Sunday, asking Shapiro how he could “forgive” Trump for his behavior following the 2020 presidential election.

During their conversation, Maher sought to bring the topic full circle by asking Shapiro if he would “admit it” if Trump exhibited authoritarian behavior after the 2024 election, whether he won or lost.

After Shapiro responded in the affirmative and Maher said he believed him, Shapiro noted that he “opposed him (Trump) when he was doing this between November and January last time.”

“Okay, but he did it. So how could you forgive him? Maher retorted.

“I mean, I don’t forgive him for what he did between November and January, and now I find myself faced with a binary choice between two candidates. And that I think will be close to the policies that I want,” Shapiro responded.

“Do you really think America’s hellscape would be worse under Kamala?” pressed Maher while saying Harris would have to convince undecided voters that she wasn’t a “sneaky, woke weirdo.”

“Are you convinced?” request Shapiro.

“No, but I would even take it – even though it comes with a lot of baggage, it’s still better than the guy who doesn’t concede elections, who likes Putin, who likes autocracy, who basically doesn’t understand that it’s the linchpin of America, the peaceful transfer of power,” Maher said. “No, I don’t think he would ever give it up.”

The pair following Shapiro argues that it is more likely that Harris will be a disastrous president than Trump will be an authoritarian president, and Maher argues that while that may be the case, Trump’s downsides should be weighed more heavily.
