Turf Lodge family blames parked cars for ambulance delay

The area’s Social Democratic and Labor councilor Paul Doherty has been trying to raise awareness of these issues.

“Residents of Turf Lodge have faced parking and congestion issues for decades. The infrastructure is outdated and the roads are not fit for purpose,” he said.

“We cannot find ourselves in a situation where emergency services, whether ambulances or firefighters, cannot access this area to deal with people who are at real risk.”

The Donnelly family have requested meetings with the DfI, the Housing Executive and Belfast City Council to discuss practical measures such as double yellow lines.

The DfI confirmed it had received the councilor’s request for an on-site visit and also called on drivers to be considerate when parking.

It comes as a new Belfast City Council pilot project to end bad parking in south and east Belfast began in October.

Drivers face fines and prosecution for improper parking.
