Tigers among Brewers slugger candidates after stellar year

The Detroit Tigers could look to spend some money this offseason to complement their young core.

After selling out at the trade deadline, they had an unprecedented second-half surge and clinched the third spot for the American League Wild Card. They even came within one win of their first ALCS appearance since 2013.

But the future is bright in the Motor City, and a few pieces to round out their core of young players could take them to the top and make them a true contender.

RJ Anderson of CBS Sports has listed Detroit as one of the potential candidates for shortstop Willy Adames.

“Adames hit a new single-season home run record and notched his fifth straight three-plus win season thanks to a white-hot August. For the most part, he’s the same player as “He’s been able to impact baseball often enough to overshadow his swing-and-miss tendencies for years,” Anderson wrote.

“If we had to guess, we’d offer Adames a better deal than the $177 million over seven years that Dansby Swanson received a few winters ago.”

Adames hit .251 with 32 bombs, 112 RBIs, 21 stolen bases and a .794 OPS during the regular season, playing a key role in taking the Milwaukee Brewers to the playoffs. He also posted a 3.1 wins above replacement mark.

Detroit could improve at the shortstop position over struggling Javier Baez, and Adames could be the perfect fit. We’ll see if he ends up on their radar this offseason.
