Saskatoon election: who is running in Ward 7?

Located in the south of the city, district 7 includes 10 districts.

It is the most populous neighborhood in the city, with a population of approximately 31,700, according to the latest Municipal Neighborhoods Commission report.

The district is home to the neighborhoods of Avalon, Adelaide/Churchill, Queen Elizabeth, Stonebridge and Willows.

It also includes the Diefenbaker management and South/Southeast development zones, as well as the CN industrial and exhibition zones.

The Nutana Park neighborhood moved from Ward 7 to Ward 9.

Former councilor Mairin Loewen is not seeking re-election, making it an open race with four candidates seeking to fill her seat.

Candidates


Edward Agbai

Edward Agbai is an author and management professional.

Agbai holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in management. His city profile indicates that he worked at a Fortune 500 company as an engineer and union leader.

He is president of the Saskatoon Niger Delta Forum. He also served on the board of directors of the Saskatoon Open Door Society and the Black Engineers of Canada.

Among its priorities are affordable housing, improved public transportation and public safety.


Holly Kelleher

Holly Kelleher leads governance, strategic planning and economic development initiatives at an Indigenous-owned consulting firm called Medicine Rope Strategies.

Kelleher holds an undergraduate degree in commerce and a master’s degree in business administration.

She was a director of the Saskatoon Public School Board.

Among its priorities are parks and public spaces, fiscal responsibility and community safety.


Jamie Kirkpatrick

Jamie Kirkpatrick works for Blue Green Canada, an organization focused on a green economy.

Kirkpatrick served as chief of staff to two Toronto city councilors. He holds a bachelor’s degree with specialization in environment and resource management.

Among its priorities are inclusiveness, infrastructure and sustainability.


Justin Wiens

Justin Wiens is a business owner.

Wiens’ city profile says he has served on several child care boards and spent nearly two decades coaching young adults.

Its priorities include security, sustainability and smart growth.
