THE Buick The Grand National has long held a special status among American performance cars. Even in its original 1987 form, it was an intimidating machine, but nothing as unhinged as this wildly reimagined version from Ringbrothers. Unveiled at SEMA Show in Las Vegas, this radical construction might just be the most outrageous Grand National the world has ever seen.

When it was launched, the Grand National put the spotlight on performance cars with its turbocharged V6. Ring Brothers Could have easily forgotten the car’s heritage and installed a large-capacity V8, but that’s not the case. Instead, they stayed true to the spirit of the car, albeit with a sinister twist.

This restomod, named Invaderpacks a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 built by Duttweiler Performance, generating a mind-blowing 1,246 horsepower and 1,355 Nm (1,000 lb-ft) of torque, figures that return the original model’s modest 240 hp almost laughable.

This powerful engine features dual 62mm turbochargers, a billet crankshaft, and custom hand-ported aluminum cylinders. It works with a Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission to drive the rear wheels.

Ringbrothers not only ditched the car’s original V6, but also replaced the chassis with a new one from Roadster Shop. Three-way adjustable Penske shocks were added, and the wild creation even features air struts. All of the car’s wiring had to be redone, it is now equipped with a new fuel cell and has the same front and rear Brembo brake calipers and carbon-ceramic discs as the C6 generation. Corvette ZR1.

Visually, the store hasn’t changed the Grand National’s classic look too much, although subtle upgrades hint at the car’s capabilities. New three-piece HRE wheels (19-inch front and 20-inch rear) wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires provide both grip and style. A custom chin spoiler, slightly flared rear quarter panels and a carbon fiber hood scoop add a modern, aggressive touch without diluting the car’s original aesthetic.

A look inside the cabin shows this thing means business. A roll cage dominates the interior, complete with custom gauges, a new steering wheel, and a Vintage Air climate control system.

For those who have the courage to push Invader At its limits, there’s even a standby parachute release button, a fitting addition for a car with this level of raw power, tailor-made for a drag strip showdown.
