Student hackathon tackles climate change in Mississauga

A hackathon will encourage students to find solutions to climate change issues in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga, in partnership with Go Open Data, is hosting a student hackathon called The Sky’s the Limit: Innovative Rooftop Strategies for a Greener Planet on November 26.

This one-day event challenges students to develop innovative solutions to climate change problems and challenges using technology. Cash prizes will be awarded to individual participants and/or teams who finish in the first three places.

Students of all levels, high school, college or university, are invited to participate. Interested people can register individually or in teams of four to five people. All entries will be judged and a winner will be announced at the end of the event.

Students will have access to resources and support available through open data and geographic information systems platforms. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to independently use tools such as artificial intelligence and data analysis to improve their project.

Participants are encouraged to take on this challenge with creativity, passion and a sense of responsibility.

The event is free but registration is required.

The event will take place on Tuesday, November 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mississauga City Hall.
