Tesla Model S Plaid is the ultimate chase vehicle (until it runs out of juice)

  • Unplugged Performance debuted its modified Model S Plaid police vehicle at SEMA.
  • The 1,020 horsepower chase car is fully equipped with red and blue emergency lights.
  • Although the powertrain remains stock, Unplugged has upgraded the brakes for high-speed chases.

Imagine you are a criminal running from the police. After perhaps playing a little too much Grand Theft Auto, you embark on a police chase, but rather than stopping, you stop, trying to outrun the authorities. But you’re not being chased by an old patrol car; instead, a Tesla Model S Plaid is chasing you. Yes, a Plaid. The EV equivalent of a ballistic missile on wheels, armed with 1,020 horsepower and a 0-60 time of less than two seconds. Do you still feel lucky?

Although this scenario is unlikely to come true (right, guys?), given the cost the S model Plaid is, that hasn’t stopped Unplugged Performance’s UP.FIT division from using the flagship electric vehicle as the basis for its latest chase vehicle, revealed at SEMA. It’s worth pointing out that this is a vehicle designed to showcase the brand’s police-focused enhancements, but Unplugged is accepting orders for its Model S Plaid, should any U.S. authorities be interested in the ultimate pursuit vehicle .

The changes are a little bigger than turning on some flashing lights and calling it a day. To maximize the aerodynamics of the electric vehicle, UP.FIT decided not to use bulky lights on the roof and instead integrated these lights behind the windshield and rear window.

The front part of the Model S Plaid has also been modified with a black push bar incorporating small red and blue lights. UP.FIT then added high and low frequency emergency sirens and installed police lights on the skirts, tailgate and rear diffuser. A black and white livery for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department completes the look.

As standard, the flagship Model S leaves the factory with 1,020 hp and can reach 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds. That’s more than enough to track down any suspect, so UP.FIT didn’t touch the car’s two electric motors. However, it upgraded the brakes and installed new lightweight forged wheels.

Now let it be law enforcement Whether the agency can actually justify splurging on a Model S Plaid is another question. But taking into account the increasingly exotic police car fleet there – some ministries I already have Cybertrucks, after all…it’s not entirely out of the question.
