Three scenarios for Saturday’s match

During his tenure at Virginia Tech, Brent Pry is now 1-11 in one-score games. As he noted during his press conference this week, the Hokies haven’t been able to finish their football games since the start, and there’s no doubt that if Virginia Tech pulls off the upset, it will be a close match.

Earlier in the week, Brent Pry said: “We weren’t able to finish, that’s something we’re looking into and thinking about. We have to be better out there, and it starts with me. Looking at these close finishes, what do we need to do to get over the top and have a closer mentality, you know, and finish these things? So we’re looking at it carefully from many angles.

Bhayshul Tuten and Kyron Drones didn’t play last week and Virginia Tech had a seemingly great offensive plan to start the game. There were plenty of short passes, manageable runs and scoring drives that allowed the Hokies to take a 21-3 lead.

But, after some questionable play calls and poor offensive decisions, Virginia Tech gave up its own 18-point lead. The Hokies need to be better with a lead this week against a ranked, versatile and strong Clemson team.

Clemson’s home atmosphere was killed last week after being dominated by Louisville on its home turf.

Despite Virginia Tech’s 2-3 record on the road this year, Lane Stadium has always been a good home atmosphere, and perhaps the Hokies could shake up a Clemson team reeling after a big loss. Lane Stadium is far from at its peak, dating back to the days when Virginia Tech was a perennial ACC contender, but the Hokies could shock Clemson if the atmosphere can force bad decisions from this Washington team. Tigers.
