The Kamloops Blazers win, beating the Royals 6-4 – WHL

Blazers put the Royals to bed

A 10-goal back-and-forth game against the Victoria Royals was finally put to bed thanks to an 11th-hour goal from the Kamloops Blazers on Wednesday night.

Kamloops captain Emmitt Finnie opened the scoring on a power play in the first period. The Royals quickly scored a goal of their own, ending the period 1-1.

The Royals took the lead six minutes into the second. Blazers forward John Szabo equalized later in the period.

The third period started with an avalanche of goals. The Royals scored two minutes later, but the Blazers tied it a minute later with Finnie’s second of the night. The Royals regained the lead on a penalty shot a minute later, but a goal from Jordan Keller kept the score at 4-4.

With 2:06 left in the third and the game tied, Ryan Michael scored the winning goal and his first of the season. With the Royals’ net empty, Jordan Keller scored his second of the night to secure the victory.

Blazers guard Logan Edmonstone stopped 23 of 27 shots. Spencer Michnik stopped 33 of 38 Royals shots.

The Blazers’ power play scored on two of five chances, while the Royals scored on both chances they were given.

The announced attendance at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria was 2,334.

The win brings the Blazers to an 8-8-1 record this season, seventh in the WHL Western Conference.

The Blazers will be back at home on Friday, taking on the Spokane Chiefs at the Sandman Center. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
