Nearly 600 animals also received care thanks to the basic veterinary services offered at the clinic on wheels.

“These numbers reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire team, which has made a significant impact on the lives of countless animals and their families,” said Hope Lumbis, director of mobile animal welfare services at the SPCA, in a press release. “We are so grateful to everyone who has made the health and well-being of their animals a priority and entrusted their care to us. »

The SPCA’s mobile unit, stationed in Sudbury, has been busy this year, carrying out more than 1,000 spay and neuter surgeries and almost 600 wellness appointments. PROVIDED

Operated by the Ontario SPCA and the Humane Society, the mobile unit is stationed in Sudbury to help make basic veterinary and spay/neuter services more accessible in the North.

“Services are available to those who receive a government grant, have an Aboriginal status card and/or do not currently have a relationship with a local veterinarian,” the agency said. “The Ontario SPCA’s goal is to help keep pets healthy and with the families who love them, and to reduce pet overpopulation.

The unit was made possible in 2019 through sponsorship from Pet Valu Companions for Change.

As a registered charity that does not receive annual government funding, the SPCA “depends on the support of our community to continue to make these services possible”, the organization said. “To find out more or to make a donation to stock the mobile unit and help cover operating costs, visit ontariospca.ca/mobileservices.”
