Don’t fall for it: claiming that Stephen King was banned from X is satire

Did Elon Musk Bury Horror Author Stephen King in Cemetery X (or sematic, as King fans would say)?

“Elon Musk permanently bans Stephen King from Platform X after trolling the tech mogul,” read a statement. Article from November 2.

A related article in the post stated: “Oh my god, people! If you thought the Twitterverse couldn’t get any wilder, buckle up!”

The Threads posts received over a thousand likes and almost as many comments, with people believing the claim writing: “Musk doesn’t believe in free speech. He believes in hypocrisy” and ” I used to read every book Stephen published.” but I’m disgusted, I’m done.”

But don’t be afraid; this did not happen. Threads’ claim comes from a satirical account.

The Threads post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat fake news and misinformation on its feed. (Learn more about our partnership with Metawhich owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)

SpaceX Fancluba satirical account that says “nothing on this page is real,” shared the same claim on July 24 on its Facebook page. The satirical message refers to an article on Espotsanother satirical website.

But when the claim was shared on Threads, it wasn’t labeled as satire. PolitiFact has verified facts many complaints that to have originating on SpaceX Fanclub And Espots who later propagated without A satirical label.

The article linked in the viral Threads post is copied and pasted from the satirical story Espots shared on July 24.

King and Musk embarked on tiffs onbut King has a active Twitter account to November 7.
