First Weather Alert: Pleasant but Windy Fall Friday in Western New York

ROCHESTER, NY — Skies will continue to clear Thursday evening, making for a bright start Friday morning.

The breeze will pick up a bit, which will keep our temperatures from dropping above 40 degrees overnight. Friday will look like a lovely fall day, but the wind will pick up as a cold front approaches and then passes. This will be a moisture-poor cold front with no rain expected, but we will see a slight increase in cloud cover during the afternoon. It will also be windy, with a few hours of gusts of 30 to 35 mph early in the afternoon. This isn’t usually something that would cause power outages, but it will definitely make cleaning up the leaves a little more difficult. Remember: work with the wind!

This will drop our temperatures from the 50s on Friday, back to the 40s for high temperatures on Saturday, but a large area of high pressure development will provide mostly sunny skies to start the weekend.

A winter storm that brought heavy snow to the Rockies will move toward the Great Lakes on Sunday, but it won’t be snow for us. We will see the sun begin Sunday fading and rain developing during the afternoon. Most of this rain will disappear by Monday, leaving us with mostly dry weather for Veterans Day.
