AAA Alabama gives advice on what to expect with seasonal gas prices

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) – Right now, gas prices are up 3 cents since last month, but 20 cents less than this time last year.

As for the rest of the year, Clay Ingram of AAA Alabama says it will continue to decline.

“When we get to the fall, that’s when we typically see a downward trend in gas prices because our demand is down,” Ingram said.

Although people travel for the holidays, Ingram says fewer people travel when it’s colder outside, hence why prices are lowest in January and February.

If you notice a price increase during the holidays, find another gas station.

“Some stations try to raise their prices a little higher than necessary to make extra money. We need to be sure to compare prices during these times and not reward these stations for trying to take advantage of us,” Ingram said.

Ingram says prices can rise during hurricane season if a refinery or pipeline is damaged in a storm. None were on the path to impact this season.
