Trailer for the Witches document

“I will drag you into this spell with me…” Mubi has released an official trailer for documentary film simple title Witchesdirected by the filmmaker Elizabeth Sankey. Believe it or not, this is actually a movie about witches and their representation in pop culture and media. Witches by Elizabeth Sankey offers an in-depth look at the intersections of motherhood, mental health, and the enduring witch archetype, unraveling centuries of stigma with a thought-provoking, modern perspective. The documentary examines the relationship between cinematic depictions of witches and postpartum depression, using footage from cinematic history as well as personal testimonies – all while creating a new group of women to reclaim their stories. Following its initial premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, Witches will be streamed on Mubi to watch later in November this fall. A fascinating personal essay on the concept of witch turned into a full 90 minute documentary worth watching.
