Burn bans and drought mean no Ullr Fest at Camelback Resort

Due to dry conditions and burning bans, Camelback Resort’s Ullr Fest was canceled this year.

The festival, which is named after the Norse god of snow and usually involves setting fire to wooden skis, would have celebrated its 10th anniversary.

In a statement, Camelback Resort said: “In light of drought conditions, recent fires in our area and the burning ban currently in effect, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Ullr Fest this Saturday November 9 at Camelback Resort. The safety of our firefighters, first responders, the community at large and our own associates is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding during this time.

The latest map from the U.S. Drought Monitor, released Thursday, Nov. 7, and reflecting data from Tuesday morning, shows all of Monroe County in moderate drought.

Camelback Resort is in Pocono and Jackson Townships, both of which have burn bans.

According to Pocono Township, the burning ban remains in effect until further notice. The township said this ban applies to “all camp and decorative fires due to continued drought conditions.” Violations can result in a fine of up to $500.

From Thursday, November 7, an alert on Jackson Township Website says a burning ban is in effect until further notice.
