Spotlight on National Adoption Month: Starfish Ministries

BALL, La. (KALB) – November is National Adoption Month and according to adoptionnetwork.com This month is intended to encourage others to learn about adoption and recognize people in this country whose lives have been touched by adoption.

Starfish Ministries is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing underprivileged and at-risk children with the tools, opportunities and support they need to thrive.

Their main focus is their emergency foster home program where they temporarily house children in need.

They offer a short-term solution of up to 72 hours, allowing social workers and agencies the time they need to find a more permanent placement that best meets the child’s needs.

“I am an adoptive mom myself to a beautiful baby girl,” said Jessica Lachney, president and founder of Starfish Ministries. “So adoption is very close to my heart and it’s also something that we like to try to help do because Starfish can do that in any way possible. Some children who come to us are released for adoption and we have fortunately been able to help them find a permanent place to go.

The Louisiana Heart Gallery says there are currently 446 children in the state of Louisiana who are free for adoption and 161 children in the state of Louisiana free for adoption who do not have permanent resources. For more information click here.
