Missoula Co. holds second TEDD hearing in Grant Creek, proposes deannexation

Missoula County commissioners held a second hearing Thursday on creating a potential targeted economic development district in Grant Creek, as a commissioner sought to allay some concerns.

The proposal would open an 84-acre tract off North Reserve Street for tax increment financing. This would allow new taxable revenue to be injected directly back into the region in the hope of promoting development.

Similar to the first hearing, the Missoula Rural Fire District expressed concerns about the potential addition of a sixth TEDD to the fire district’s service area.

County Commissioner Dave Strohmaier floated an idea to ease the district’s concerns.

“And again, hypothetically, don’t feel like you have to figure this out on the fly — if that financial impact could be mitigated and deannexation happened in such a way that you no longer have any of the responsibilities that you currently might It’s up to anyone to find an ideal location there?’ Strohmaier asked Missoula Fire District Chief Paul Finlay.

Finlay seemed supportive of this idea of annexing the proposed TEDD area.

Commissioners are expected to take action on the TEDD proposal on November 14.
