The 16p cupboard staple banishes stubborn grease from the oven in minutes.

Cleaning the inside of an oven can be a daunting task, especially when it’s covered in grease and stubborn stains.

However, one woman has shared a time-saving tip that aims to reduce both the effort and costs involved. The mother, known online as @mamanjmclaimed she could get a sparkling oven using just a dish of boiling water and a dishwasher tablet.

In a video that garnered more than 148,000 likes, she showed placing a dishwasher tablet in a glass oven-safe dish. The tablet she used was a Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablet, which was typically priced around £15 for a bag of 94 (around 16p per tablet).

She then poured boiling water from the kettle over the tablet, letting it dissolve slightly before sliding the tray into the oven and closing the door. Setting the oven to 100°C, she allowed the tablet to completely dissolve in the water while the oven heated.

After leaving the dish in the oven for about an hour, she found that she could easily remove the dirt with minimal effort. Explaining the process, the TikTok user said: “The steam containing the active ingredients from the tablet will settle on the walls of the oven.”

“They have degreasing, dissolving and cleaning properties. They will perfectly cover any burnt food residue. The heat from the oven will speed up the dissolution process, so you won’t need to scrub them.”

“After an hour, open the oven and wipe the walls with a damp sponge. The dirt will come off immediately. It will collect even heavily burned residue like a magnet.”

Staying on top of the household can be difficult, so an expert looked at an often-overlooked task you should be doing every week. Whether you find house cleaning satisfying or you hate doing it, you can’t deny that it can be time-consuming.

And for this reason, certain tasks can be neglected, sometimes for months. But now a social media expert has lifted the lid on something you probably forget to do at home – and should actually be done once a week for best results.
