The town of Attalla receives a grant to modernize its sewer system

ATTALLA, AL (WBRC) – As part of a larger state plan to improve city and county infrastructure, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced that the city of Attalla will receive half a million dollars for improvements.

Mayor Larry Means said the money would help improve the quality of life for neighbors in the community after recently being informed his city would receive a community development block grant totaling $500,000. The money will cover a range of community needs, including water and sewer improvements.

The mayor said the city plans to upgrade the Curtiston area of District Four and Beale Street by replacing damaged clay pipes and manholes with improvements in two areas of the city.

Mayor Means says his office will continue to seek grants to better serve the people of Attala.

“We’ve probably received millions of dollars in grants over the years and this is just another one and we appreciate Governor Ivey. It’s an ongoing process forever, I mean since I’ve been in office and it will continue to be because of the old sewer lines, and plus we have some subdivisions that are building a few houses right now and it adds to the sewer problem, so it’s good for us to get a sewer grant,” Mayor Means said.

Means says the $500,000 grant comes with a $100,000 match, which the mayor says is a plus for the city.
