Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), Darshan Bhawan, 36 Tughlakabad Institutional Area, MB Road, New Delhi-110062; has invited applications from research-oriented scholars in the field of philosophy and its related disciplines for the ICPR Fellowship 2024-25.

The main objective of the ICRP Fellowship Program is to promote research in philosophy at different levels by providing researchers, particularly young researchers, with the opportunity to engage full-time in research projects of their choice. Research themes should generally fall within the broad areas of research in philosophy and related disciplines identified by the Council. The main areas of research include (i) theories of truth and knowledge (epistemology) (ii) metaphysics and ontological questions (iii) normative inquiries (ethics and aesthetics) (iv) comparative and critical study philosophical systems/movements (v) logic, Philosophy of mathematics and philosophy of language (vi) Philosophy of science and technology (vii) Philosophy of religion (viii) Philosophy of education (ix) Philosophy of law (x) Philosophy of mind and studies of action (xi) Studies of consciousness (xii) Social, political and cultural philosophy (xiii) Fundamental values ​​embodied in Indian culture and their relevance for national reconstruction (xiv) Applied ethics: environmental, medical and bioethics, business ethics and professional ethics (xv) Interdisciplinary studies.

Scholarships (i) Junior Research Scholarships: The scholarship amount is Rs. 17,600/- per month for a regular full-time doctoral student and an emergency grant of Rs. 16,500/- per year. There is no provision for salary protection in this category (ii) General Scholarships: The scholarship amount is Rs. 1,000,000. 30,800/- per month and the contingency grant is Rs. 22 000/- per annum. There is a provision for salary protection in this category (iii) Senior Scholarships: The amount of scholarship is Rs. 1,000,000. 44,000/- per month and provident grant of Rs. 44,000/- per an (iv) National Fellowships: The fellowship is awarded to eminent scholars on the basis of applications. The scholarship amount is Rs. 60,500/- per month and a welfare grant of Rs. 66,000/- per year.

All scholarships are offered for a period of two years. However, if the work carried out by the fellow during his or her tenure proves worthy of publication, the fellowship may be extended up to the third year in such exceptional cases.

(i) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The candidate must hold a master’s degree from a recognized university in philosophy or related disciplines with 55% marks (second class with a minimum of 50% marks for SC/ST candidates)/equivalent grade. The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 20.11.2024 (relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/PwD candidates). The applicant must have a confirmed PhD registration with the title of the research work on the date of application for the award of the JRF in a department of a state-funded university/institute, which is recognized by the UGC regulations for conduct and award of Ph.D. .D degree.

Awarded only to those who have already earned a Ph.D. degree as per existing UGC standards. General Fellowships are awarded to researchers who have demonstrated significant promise and skill in independent research, as evidenced by their publications in the form of books and/or research articles. Applicants must also hold a master’s degree from a recognized university/institution in any philosophy or related discipline having at least second class with a minimum of 55% marks (second class with a minimum of 50% marks marks for SC/ST candidates)/equivalent mark. Candidates should not be more than 50 years of age as on 20.11.2024 (age relaxation of 5 years allowed for SC/ST/PwD candidates).

This award is given to experienced researchers with very high-level publications to their credit and who have made a significant contribution to the philosophy presented in their publications.

National fellowships are awarded to distinguished scholars who have contributed to the field of philosophy. Applications from a candidate are accepted if the candidate has benefited from an ICRP scholarship earlier and five years from the date of joining the earlier scholarship have not elapsed.

Applications must be submitted online to before 11:59 p.m. on 11/20/2024. Detailed guidelines are available on the website. The application fee is Rs. 500/- (Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PwD category candidates) to be paid online. After successfully submitting your online application, a copy of the application form along with the educational document should be sent to “ICPR, Darshan Bhawan, 36 Tughlakabad Institutional Area, MB Road, New Delhi-110062” to reach before 25.11.2024 . The exam and interview date for shortlisted candidates will be communicated only through the candidate’s registered email address and on the portal.

The Council reserves the right to consider awarding a scholarship even if no one has requested one.
