Experts investigate possible tornado in Fergus

A team of tornado experts is heading to Fergus after a storm ripped through the area Sunday evening.

Rain hit the Waterloo and Guelph region around 10 p.m.

Some residents living in the Fergus area reported localized damage, including downed trees.

In a social media post Monday morning, the Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed that a survey team was traveling to Fergus to investigate “potential tornado damage” that occurred Sunday evening.

The latest investigation comes just months after a team from the Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed a tornado struck the Ayr community in August. Initially, investigators thought it was an EF1 storm, but it was upgraded to a storm. EF2 storm after researchers examine other evidence,

The EF designation comes from the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which assigns ratings based on wind speed and estimated damage. The rating system goes from EF0, the least severe, to EF5.
