Dan Kitchener’s mural of Jesus brings ‘Light of the World’ to Belfast city center – The Irish News

Street artist Dan Kitchener has thanked the people of Belfast by unveiling his latest vibrant mural of Jesus on a city center wall.

The artwork, Light of the World, adorns the HOPE Chapel Lane building, formerly the Old Berry Street Presbyterian Church, in Bank Square.

It is the latest in a series of artistic creations in the city created by Kitchener, known for his freehand spray murals, which he has created in cities around the world, including New York, London, Barcelona and Osaka, Japan.

There are now over 10 other murals by the street artist in various locations across Belfast, including Reflections on the corner of University Street, Night Taxi on Enfield Street and Belfast-Blurry Eyed on Talbot Street.

Unveiling the Jesus mural, the Essex-born artist, who brands his work as Dank, described it as “epic” on his social media page.

‘Light Of The World’ – my epic new mural finally finished in sunny Belfast,” Kitchener wrote on X.

“Absolutely blessed with beautiful weather and so many amazing people who came and took the time to talk to me and see my art – I created this for the amazing people @crownjesusministries and Belfast.”

This comes just months after Kitchener completed another mural on a nearby wall of the HOPE building, following an initiative by Keith Mitchell, co-founder of Crown Jesus Ministries, which operates out of the building.

Mr Mitchell had said he had wanted to “invest in and bless the town” through the mural project.

After the Jesus mural was completed this weekend, Mr Mitchell said it “almost made me cry with joy”.

“A lovely gift from Dan to remind everyone, no matter how difficult life can get; Jesus is still the light of the world,” he wrote.

“Painting inspired by John 21 depicting the resurrected Jesus having breakfast on the beach with his disciples.”
