Applications open for federal grants to support housing and community services in Clarksville

The City of Clarksville announced the opening of applications for two federal grants to support local programs that improve housing stability and improve community services.

These grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, are intended to provide community agencies with the funds they need to provide support, address homelessness, and strengthen services for people at risk of housing instability.

What programs are available?

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program: A federal grant that helps improve the quality of life of low- and moderate-income individuals and families. It provides funds to address community needs such as affordable housing, better public infrastructure and economic development initiatives.

The Eligibility Program and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program: This program provides critical funding to help prevent homelessness and support people facing urgent housing crises. It allows local nonprofit organizations to offer resources such as temporary shelter, rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention and outreach services.

The funds cover shelter operating costs, essential services and helping people find housing. The goal is to quickly stabilize people facing housing insecurity and reduce the risk of becoming homeless in the future.

Application Timeline

Applications for both programs opened on November 7. Applicants must submit their proposals by Monday, January 13, 2025 and the City will announce funding allocations in March 2025.

Workshops

The City is organizing two information workshops open to community organizations, faith groups, non-profit organizations and agencies interested in applying. The workshops will provide an overview of the application process, eligibility requirements and project selection criteria.

  • November 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Ln #501, Clarksville, TN 37040

  • November 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Burt Cobb Recreation Center, 1011 Franklin St, Clarksville, TN 37040

Entry required

Clarksville residents are invited to participate in a public inquiry to help shape the City of Clarksville’s 2025-2030 Comprehensive Plan.

The plan will outline how the City intends to use its CDBG and HOME funds over the next five years, addressing community needs and establishing priorities for infrastructure, housing, economic development and social services.

THE survey is available on the City of Clarksville website until Monday, January 13, 2025.
