Trump’s first moves match public pressure for immigration solution

President-elect Donald Trump’s first staffing decisions is exactly what voters expect from the new administration less than a week after the presidential election.

Rasmussen Reportswho took the brass ring to coming closest to the popular vote percentage on Election Day, said Monday that while the economy was the top issue in the election, voters were mostly hoping that Trump would tackle illegal immigration first.

Among his first three appointments, Trump made the issue of immigration the driving force of his decisions.

On Monday, for example, he named Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for policy. Miller was Trump’s primary immigration policy planner during his first administration.

Trump also chose a former immigration official Tom Homan as border czar, paving the way for a firm but fair approach to closing the border to illegal entry and expelling serious illegal migrant criminals.

According to Rasmussen, among the top four issues voters want Trump to “solve,” immigration tops the list at 32 percent.

This is followed by “raising prices” at 27%, “protecting our democracy” at 24% and “right to abortion” at 14%.

Immigration was the top issue for Republicans and independents, while Democrats hoped that protecting democracy would be the top priority.

That’s not to say voters don’t want Trump to keep his promises to improve the economy. In fact, many said they are not as well off as they were four years ago, and the majority fear their children will be worse off.
