A trip to Apec to strengthen ties and promote Hong Kong (EC)

Chief Executive John Lee plans to garner support for Hong Kong’s membership in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at a high-level summit in Peru this week.

Lee, who is traveling to Lima to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) conference, also said on Tuesday that he would meet other leaders to promote the SAR.

“During my stay in Lima, I will attend a number of events and activities, including internal meetings and other sessions. I will also exchange views with other economic leaders, so that I can “tell the good stories of Hong Kong and explain our benefits to other countries. We can also strengthen our ties with other governments,” Lee said.

“There are a number of entities within Apec that are members of the RCEP. I will take this opportunity to push for early membership of the RCEP.”

Visiting South America for the first time since taking office, Lee said there was room for further development between the SAR and the continent, in addition to already established trade ties.
