SHOOTING: Mall shooting sends one person to Mississauga hospital

UPDATE #1: In a recent video posted to social media, Peel Regional Police Officer Ty Bell-Morena provided additional information regarding the victim of an afternoon shooting that took place on a place in Mississauga.

The victim, identified as a man in his 40s, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital, where his life is not in danger.

At this time, there is no confirmed information on a suspect, although Peel Police have received various reports, including one of a person fleeing in a vehicle and another of a person seen fleeing the scene on foot. It remains unclear whether these individuals were suspects or bystanders trying to escape the shooting. Police believe the shooting may have been targeted.

“It is too early to say whether or not the victim who suffered these injuries was the intended target,” Bell-Morena said.

One person was sent to hospital, the severity of their injuries unknown, after gunshots rang out in a plaza in Mississauga Saturday afternoon.

Peel Regional Police responded to reports of a person shot shortly before 1 p.m. along the 1200 block of Eglinton Avenue East near Dixie Road.

Authorities report the suspects had left the area by the time officers arrived, although the exact number of people involved in the incident is unclear.

The victim’s identity, including gender, age and location, has not been released by police.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.

In a recent video, police cars can be seen parked along the streets, with the square and parking lot cordoned off by police tape.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
