Did the former Michigan State star just give the 49ers a massive spark?

Former Michigan State Spartans star Taybor Pepper is certainly not a household name, but in NFL circles he is widely known as one of the best long snappers in the business.

So when he feels someone is disrespecting his profession or encroaching on his friends on special teams, he takes it personally.

That’s what happened in the San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday when Pepper intervened in what appeared to be a heated moment between kicker Jake Moody and receiver Deebo Samuel after Moody missed his third basket.

Pepper Moody defended, leading Samuel to put his hands on Pepper during the confrontation.

Pepper and Samuel have been teammates since 2020, so these two players know each other very well. Surely, they did things right after the match.

But could the Pepper incident actually help revive a running 49ers team?

San Francisco entered the season with clear Super Bowl aspirations. After all, the Niners had just lost a decisive game to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last February.

Many believed the 49ers possessed the most talented team in the NFL through 2024, and it was hard to argue with that sentiment.

However, things certainly didn’t go as planned in the Bay Area.

San Francisco is just 5-4 so far this season and is a half-game behind the Arizona Cardinals for first place in the NFC West.

Trailing the Cardinals, a team that won just four games a year ago, isn’t what most expect for a Niners team that has won back-to-back division titles.

To be fair, the 49ers have been ravaged by injuries, but no one will pity them.

Either way, maybe the little fight between Pepper and Samuel was exactly what San Francisco needed. Maybe the Niners needed a little kick in the butt to get going.

It was certainly an emotional win for the 49ers, and it was one they desperately needed, especially with a series of rather tough games on the horizon.

Pepper won’t make a tackle or catch a touchdown pass until the end, but the competitive fire he displayed on the San Francisco sideline in Week 10 might be just what the doctor ordered for the Niners as they move deeper into the second half. of the year.
