Missing Sagkeeng First Nation man found dead in Fort Alexander, Manitoba RCMP say

A missing 26-year-old man from Sagkeeng First Nation was found dead in the community of Fort Alexander, about 100 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg, Powerview RCMP said.

The body of Christian Letander was found Monday on the banks of the Winnipeg River, an RCMP news release said Tuesday.

On November 7, 2024, at approximately 12:20 p.m., RCMP received a call that Christian Joseph Letander had not been seen since the early morning hours of November 3, on Letander Road.

Destiny Lameman, the mother of Letander’s children, previously said that Letander’s grandfather heard him crying on the river bank after he was last seen, but that he was not seen or heard from anyone for more than a week later.

More than a dozen volunteers canvassed the community over the weekend, searching with a dog and drones with the RCMP to find Letander, Lameman said.

The death is currently under investigation by the RCMP, who are awaiting autopsy results.
