While finishing the NBA season strong is important, a fast start often sets a team up for success.

While most teams are figuring things out as they head into the new season, one group often stands out from the rest by going on a remarkable winning streak.

Only 15 teams in NBA history have opened the season with a winning streak of 10 games or more. Three have won an NBA title while the Cavaliers are looking to become the fourth in 2025.

Longest winning streaks in the NBA to start a season

The Warriors have the longest winning streak to start an NBA season.

Golden State opened the 2015-16 NBA season on a 24-game winning streak and won 39 of its first 43 games before finishing the season with an NBA-best 73-9 record.

A look back at the Warriors’ historic 24-0 streak in 2015-16

Golden State is the only team in NBA history to open the season with a winning streak of more than 15 games. Led by eventual unanimous MVP Stephen Curry, the Warriors started the 2015–16 season 24–0, despite head coach Steve Kerr taking a leave of absence due to health reasons.

With assistant coach Luke Walton as interim head coach, Golden State dominated to open the season, with close calls in overtime for Win #11 and double overtime for Win #24.

The Warriors’ first loss of the season came on the second night of a row following their double-overtime victory. It was a 13-point decision for a Milwaukee team led by youngsters Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greg Monroe and Jabari Parker.

Golden State did not lose a single game between October 27 and December 11. The Warriors posted an offensive rating of 114.6 and a defensive rating of 100.7 during the streak, outscoring their opponents by an average of 100.7. 13.9 points per 100 possessions.

The Warriors finished the season 73-9, ultimately losing to the Cavaliers in seven games in the NBA Finals.
