Irene’s in Austin is closing soon

An iconic brunch spot in Austin is closing its doors. After eight years of serving as a vibrant hub for coffee lovers, Irene’s will close its doors on November 24.

The beloved restaurant and bar announced their closure, citing the end of their lease.

Irene’s has served as a venue for inclusive alcohol-centric events since 2016. The restaurant has hosted drag brunches, movie nights, homecoming events and more. He welcomed everyone, even smokers.

Irene’s is going out in a big way, hosting a series of events to celebrate with regulars.

The restaurant will host an “Early Daze” throwback party on November 15. Two events are planned for November 16, including the last sparkling brunch and the university evening. This Sunday, November 17, they will host a special drag brunch celebrating eight years at the venue.

An Austin-based investment and development group plans to build a high-rise in the 500 block of West Avenue, east of the Whole Foods Market flagship store. The planned building would have nearly 360 housing units and would replace Irene and Taquero Mucho.

Taquero Mucho has not announced plans to close its west side location.
